Keep digger bees and wasps away from the kids. Sometimes, playground sand boxes serve as a nesting site for solitary insects that congregate in large numbers. The children can get stung, but no pesticides should be used on childrens’ play surfaces. Nightly heavy watering of the sand will alter the enviornment and encourage the insects to go elsewhere. Watering may have to be repeated for several nights in a row. Raking the sand also helps.
